animals, air shows, sports, got to say Steve I am a little jealous lol. If I had the $$$ I would probably buy one, or maybe the D700. It is a step that I am looking to in the future. by then the D700 will probably be the D700s or D700x

John, There won't be a D700s or D700x until 30 days after you buy the D700. You know how that works! If I buy the D90 now, next month or two they will introduce the D90s. I think it's a new version every 2 years ;-) I'm always a day late and a dollar short.

hahaha I do not think it will be that fast but yeah I know the feeling. I bought a kick butt tv (at the time) and 34 days later a better tv came out for $75 cheaper lol. Steve at least you have time before the D400 will come out. The D90x (since the D90 already has video, can't add an s to it) with probably be 15.3 MP and 8 fps. clean ISo to 10,800 lol. Jim, if your budget allows for the D90, thats what you want. A new model just means more to learn. I kinda agree with another members view on that. keeping up with technology only means never mastering the tools you already have. although I will be the first to admit, I love new technology and new toys.

It's always cool to have a little more technology. Look where it got us today. I hardly use what's in the cameras now. I'm mostly manual, but I really need good auto focus. "D90x (since the D90 already has video, can't add an s to it)" Really? How about F4s and N90s? They added a vertical grip. Maybe D90s will let you adjust focus distance for a given lens? I think the D300s may do that. Or maybe let me use AIs lenses in A-Priority? The possibilities are endless. See, I have too much time on my hands and my mind always wanders............

yeah lots of tech in the new cameras. I shoot probably 90% manual. The other 10 is more of a crud what the heck is my seting for this supposed to be. burn a few in brackets, still not like it, screw it turn on the auto. I really like the commander mode in the new cameras though. I use it alot with my hotshoes. the one thing I do not really use is the in camera editing. I do use the live view though when I am shooting from very low and do not want to lay down to get the shot. As far as the D90's replacement, based on the direction Nikon has been headed this year and how popular the D90 has been, I would put money that an x is in store higher MP and 100% viewfinder. I doubt they add a grip since the D300s does not sport one.

It's fun to have features to play around with but to me there's a lot of fluff. I use maybe 10% of the camera's functions about 80% of the time. I'll admit that often if I'm just shooting snapshots of a day trip to the beach, or my kids playing with the dog etc., I cheat and use Program mode.
Quite honestly, the main thing I bought the D300s for was to get around the high ISO noise problem the D200 had. But on the other hand, getting a new toy often sparks the interest a bit because you want to try it out.
I'd have to say though, using Nikon's CLS system (commander mode) is VERY cool! ;D I used this last spring to shoot in the local caves, some product photos, and some portraits for my kid's swim team. It seems complex at first, but once you learn how to set up your flashes it's a breeze. The only drawback is that your flash units need line-of-sight since they're triggered by flashes from the commander unit. With that aside, they yield more useable photos since you have TTL capabilities.
