Hardcore Critique
This folder is for people who really want serious and detailed feedback. This place is intended for people who want more than an egostroke and it's for people who can provide more than mere egostroke. It's about honing our skills as photographers. It's also about honing our skills as critics.
This is not a place for simply showing off a photo. This is for learning what aspects of a photo work and what don't.
For those submitting photos for hardcore critique:
- Be specific in what kind of feedback you seek. "What do you think?" is not enough. "What do you think of my framing of the subject?" is specific. "What do you think of my use of shadow and light?" is specific.
- Don't get defensive and don't retaliate. Opinions and tastes vary. You don't have to agree with every piece of feedback. It's okay to ask for the reasoning behind a bit of feedback with which you don't agree. It's not okay to openly dismiss the person providing the feedback.
For those providing feedback:
- Be honest. Don't give negative feedback to a photo just because that photographer didn't like something of yours.
- Be detailed. "I like it" is not enough. We'll ask for a more detailed edit or we may reserve the right to delete the post.
- Try to stick to the issues on which the requestor asks for feedback. It's okay to mention other issues if they're glaring, but do provide feedback on the issues requested.
- BE RESPECTFUL. This place can be tough and fun and friendly at the same time.
For everyone:
- Debate techniques and images, not people.
- Threads that turn into "trainwrecks" may be locked or even deleted.
- Members who abuse the folder may be subject to administrative action.
- Play nice, please!
Hardcore Critique can be a wonderful source of professional and artistic growth. It can also be a channel for the building of friendships.
Please do not reply to this thread unless you've got questions or comments on the nature of this notice or of the HardCore Crit area in general. If you have a photo for critique, create a new thread for it.
