An excellent suggestion has been posted. The goal of this poll is to determine at which interval we would have the most participation. We may eventually have all of them, but lets see which is preferred. The duration of this poll is three days, after which it will be locked and we'll tally the score. (Actually, it's a good excuse to try out the poll feature) ;D

From an administrative POV, how do we manage the process?
Do we let people submit images, then after a POD is selected, we flush the folder? That would be the only way to manage a daily POD process. Otherwise we'd be buried in daily folders, some of which might be empty.
Or do we have a separate folder for each period and leave the submissions in it for later reference? This would be more manageable for a weekly or monthly POD.

I would say no more often than weekly right now. Just how would this work...would it be a post where everyone would submit a photo in that thread (like I am used to), or would it be a single photo selected by mods/jury panel?

Yep, it looks like weekly may be our winner. I wasn't necessarily thinking of a competition, but that would be cool. Or, we could just have people share their own favorite photo from that week. (?) If it's a competition, I'm not sure what method of selection would be best, maybe this would be a good topic for another poll and see what the general populace thinks. (?)
A new folder/board for each week would be good, and maybe delete them after a month or two.

Having a different folder would get cumbersome. Lets just do one folder, and start a thread for each week. That way they can remain archived, and responses can still be left. Everyone just posts their own pictures.

At this point, I'd prefer it not to be a competition, but a way to highlight different users' work. While we'd still want to highlight the best work, we could also make an effort to rotate the honors.
With each picture selected for Picture of the <whatever time-frame>, maybe we could have the photographer write up a brief paragraph about the shot or lacking that, we could add a very abbreviated mini-biography about the photographer.

I like Bob's idea about the photographer telling about the picture. Not the exif data, or the location...about what they see in the picture and why they were drawn to the scene. Its really fun to hear what the artist thinks about their own work and what they see in it. Everyone interprets art differently, why not hear from the one that created it?

I like it too, though it wouldn't hurt to include the camera and lens used. Not required, of course, but nice to see. Also, this parallels the original suggestion, "Not in the sense of 'as a contest' but as where each member would share a photo of each their own likes" as posted by Junita.
