I bought the sb600. I haven't gotten creative but I like what it does instead of the in camera flash. I'm also going to get a mini softbox, maybe that'll take that flash out of the eye??? Any suggestions appreciated... Attachments:

Get a flash bracket that gets the flash about 9" above the camera. A flip bracket will keep the flash centered, but above the lens no matter what the orientation is, vertical or horizontal. A soft box will soften the light to some extent. Both will help. I use a Lumiquest Pro-T bracket. BTW: Nice shot. The new granddaughter?

Red eye is one of those annoying things isn't it? Off camera flash is the best way to combat it. You can try the red eye reduction feature as well which will fire a few preliminary flashes constricting the iris.

Now that Greg mentioned it, when using red eye reduction, the preliminary flashes usually get the little people to look at the camera. When the main flash fires, they are already looking towards the camera. Good way to get their attention.

This is a very sweet photo Juanita! As mentioned, a bracket works well. I have one but don't really use it much because I usually have my flash on a stand with an umbrella using commander mode.
