I've just gotten my brand new Canon 5D Mark II and went out with it over the weekend. Here is one of the waterfalls that I shot with it. The Widow Maker

Beautiful Greg! I know you just got it, but how does it compare to and differ from the 40D that you had before?

Beautiful Greg! I know you just got it, but how does it compare to and differ from the 40D that you had before? I haven't done enough shooting with it to really know all the nuiances, but there are a few things that I've noticed. 1. Overall the build quality is better, with the exception of the CF door, and the shutter button feel. These two items feel cheap compared to the 40D. 2. The viewfinder is much crisper, and more accurate than the 40D. 3. The LCD is a dream. Its the same size, but higher resolution which makes it easier to use live view and to review images. 4. It seems to have a wider exposure latitude by maybe a half stop or so. 5. I love the ability to drop down to ISO 50 which was where I was for this waterfall. The lighting was a little on the bright side and even with a polarizer and 3-stop ND filter, used with f/22 I was only able to get 6-8 seconds worth of exposure. This was on the fast end of what I really wanted, and it wouldn't have been possible with the 40D's lowest ISO of 100. 6. Used with a UDMA CF card, this thing is much faster than the 40D when it comes to saving and viewing images. 7. Best difference is the full frame sensor. To get true wide angle shots I had to use an EF-S lens with the 40D. Without the crop factor, my 17-40 f/4L now becomes my ultra-wide with better optics. The converse is I lose a lot from my telephoto end so if you do lots of wildlife the 40D might be a better choice...actually the 50D or 7D currently.

Thanks for the info Greg. Honey has the 50D now and is going to be jumping up to the 7D. He's trying to make me an offer for his 50D; but I'm not sure I can swing the cash he wants just now. I already have my 40D, with the 30D as a backup; but that 50D would be sweet!!
